• Maureen Hanley Soho

    September 10, 2015
  • Maureen Hanley Soho came into the world on August 12, 1946, in Brooklyn, NY. Maureen was one of six children born to Doris McTague Hanley and James Francis Hanley. She spent her childhood on Long Island in Hicksville, NY, with her siblings: James, Patricia Heeger, Kevin, Brian, and Daniel.

Maureen met the love of her life, Nicholas Francis Soho, on Long Island in 1966 and they married in 1968. She became the proud mother to three beautiful girls: Maureen Nicole Leonard (Jerry P.), Michele Nicole Kettering (James M.), and Nicole Marie Hickey (Mark D.). Maureen and Nick moved the family from Levittown, NY, to Slidell, LA, to raise their family. Maureen was a devoted “soccer mom” way before the term was even coined.  She worked full-time as she raised her children instilling in them a strong work ethic and a deep spiritual connection with God. Maureen held several positions in the New Orleans area over the years working as a Program Manager at Tulane’s School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine and ending her career with MedData in Covington, LA, as Office Administrator.

Three years ago, Maureen and Nick moved full-time to Hot Springs Village, AR, where she embraced retired life by participating in the Stonecroft Bible Study Group, Luncheon Connection, Boomers Rock Club, Garden Club, Christian Women’s Club, and as a volunteer for the Teen Challenge of Arkansas.

Maureen wore her “Grandma” title with pride, and leaves a legacy of eight beautiful grandchildren, including: Samantha Nicole Leonard (1995); Jerry Nicholas Leonard (1999); Nicholas James Kettering (2004); William McTague Kettering (2006); Maya Grace Hickey (2007); Charlotte Marie Hickey (2010); Margaret Hanley Kettering (2011); and Samuel David Hickey (2013).

On September 10, 2015, Maureen passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Friends and family will gather for Funeral Services on Tuesday, September 15th at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church.  Visitation will be held at 10 a.m., followed by Mass at 11 a.m. with a reception following at the church.  Memorial donations may be made to the Baptist Health Foundation designated for the Baptist Health Heart Institute.

    She will be missed.

Maureen has been a person who loves life, her family and those she came in contact with. I originally met Maureen when she came to Stonecroft Ministries Luncheon Connection. I feel that God led the way for me to ask her to be involved in the leadership team which she accepted readily. She was such an asset and always willing to do anything she could for our group. We all loved Maureen and we will miss her so much. We know that she is now in heaven and can see Jesus face to face. May God strengthen each family member and let each day be filled with the wonderful memories of this lovely wife, mother, and grandmother. Dee Vincent

Growing up in Hicksville, NY was the best. Maureen was the younger sister of my dear friend Pat Hanley Heeger. I'd see Maureen often and always thought she was a "doll", sweet, and with a great smile. May God bless Maureen and her family. I Love you, Pat Hanley Heeger. Pat Graw Zito

Maureen was our friend. She loved her family and enjoyed telling stories about them. She was always upbeat about life and enjoyed spending time with her friends. She never did learn to play golf, but that was o.k. , she enjoyed the suds bros outings.Rich and I will miss her.

Just wanted to add my condolences to Maureen's family during this time of the loss of your loved one. I came to know Maureen through the Luncheon Connection here in the Village. She was such a special "neat" lady and I am so thankful that God brought her across my path. I will miss seeing her very much on this side of Heaven but look forward to the time I will see her again when the Lord calls me home. Carla J. Grey
